Armenian Smyrna/Izmir

This book is the eleventh volume based on papers delivered in the series of semiannual international conferences on Historic Armenian Cities and Provinces held at UCLA since 1997. Smyrna, more familiar as Izmir in Turkish and modern usage, played a key role not only in Armenian commercial history but also in the national process of intelectual, cultural, and social enlightenment. This volume has been enriched by numerous illustrations of the city of Smyrna, its suburbs, and its surrounding towns.
