This is the author’s doctoral dissertation presented in 1977 to Concordia Seminary in Exile in cooperation with the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. This meticulously researched book gives the reader a clear picture of the 19th century Ottoman Empire, the status of its Armenian populace, and the contributions of the American missionaries to Armenians and non-Armenians in Turkey.
